Details for the day...

30 min minibus/taxi transfer to Fuente De, then cable car up to a very scenic 1800m altitude

Pick up our bikes at the hire shop at top-station, get our own pedals fitted if desired, check bike over

a truly epic day’s riding all the way back down to our B&B, 27 miles away. 2850m of descent, which is truly bonkers, with a couple of climbs (the largest at 400m is on-road).

Evening meal at Casa Gustavo B&B

Saturday 8th June

This will be our toughest day of riding. In particular our first ascent is a climb all the way from 300m to our high point of 1200m! Many of us won’t have tackled a 900m off-road ascent before so we will just take as much time as we need. The first half is relatively mild, the second half steeper, but we have no time constraints and it’s not a problem if those not on the e-bikes walk the second part.

Good news is once we get to the top it is either downhill or “undulating” after that

Saturday evening dinner at 8.30pm at local restaurant Casa Fofi

Sunday 9th June

Breakfast then set off on a 26-mile loop with 1500m ascent.

An easier day as the climbs are milder, none of them are more than a couple of hundred metres, and notably the first 12 miles is a very gradual ascent that is all quiet roads.

B&B owner will return the hire bikes to the operator using their minibus

Monday 10th June

Breakfast, pack bags and checkout.
A plan for those who want to join is a 45-minute easy walk to the medieval market town of Potes.
Monday is “market day”, and it looks a beautiful place to wander and stretch the legs.

Minibus/taxi transfer to Santander airport

16:10 flight from Santander to Stansted, arriving 17:35

Additional Useful Info:

Preparation

We're hiring bikes on this one, so if you want to bring your own pedals please let Andy know in advance. Fingers crossed for balmy sunshine, or at least not pouring rain – this trip will anyway go ahead regardless. Just check the weather forecast before heading off, and adjust your clothes accordingly
Try to get as many cycle miles in as you can, pre-trip.
Bring some warmer clothes, and a spare layer/rain jacket to carry on the ride. Weather can quickly change there, and don't underestimate the potential for a cold wind on top of the hills. Given a lot of the riding is fairly remote, make sure you ride with enough water and snacks.

What to bring

Must have spare bits for your bike:
We'll investigate what the hire shop have on offer and what kind of tyres they run etc. Watch this space for more info on what to bring along.
Nice to have spare bits:
Energy gels are great for tired legs on long rides. They really can make the difference between finishing a ride or crashing out. Always have some spare with you. It would be good if someone can volunteer to bring first aid basics. Great if someone can bring a post ride tipple (John's toffee vodka went down a treat last time)
